These are some of my favorites. You go to the App Store on the phone and get the FREE ones. You should be able to SEARCH by the application title. I think I have only paid for one which I do love but rest are FREE!
Tube Deluxe – PAID for it, not much and it is FANTASTIC even though I don’t go to London terribly often.
Wordle – oops, yes I paid some small amount for this game and I love it, too!
Units – how I convert from F to C and kg to lbs and cm to inches, etc. I don’t remember if it came with the iPhone or I got it for free.
THESE ALL FREE:
Wikipedia
France 24
NPR – which is Public Radio from America – one of my personal favorites. I can listen to Philadelphia or Cleveland or Chicago wherever I am!
NY Times – another big favorite but I think they will start charging soon unfortunately
AccuWeather
The Weather Channel
Sunrise & Set – I love this one which also tells you latitude and longitude for different locations
Facebook – pretty cool on the iPhone although I don’t spend much time on it
Urbanspoon – find places to eat and reviews and if you are in London, it does it by GPS
IHandyLevel – FREE spirit level and other tools. VERY COOL. Your iPhone becomes a mechanical tool, too.
Kayak – flights, it isn’t very fast, though. I like it better on my laptop!
FingerLite – just fun for a little while. Play the piano on your iPhone
Skype – can’t use to phone but I can see my contacts and chat messages, etc.
Amazon Kindle store for iPhone – I have downloaded lots of free books on my iPhone and I have several e-reader programs if you want to know about those
Alice in Wonderland – the full text – thought that was appropriate for Oxford but I confess I haven’t read it on the phone yet.
Smacktalk – just very silly fun one.
DrinksFree – in case you need to know the recipe for mixing your cocktail
Flixter – very cool movie theatre finder application!
Flickr – photos and very cool on the iPhone
Doodlebuddy – just fun drawing program
Bubblewrap – for when you are stressed. Just break the bubbles
Last fm – another kind of internet radio – haven’t played with it enough. Mainly music rather than news, etc. which I like. I am a news junkie I think.
Pebbles – fantastic game – I played for months before I solved it. And was free at the time.
WorldMate – new travel one I haven’t played with much but you can store your itinerary, etc. Excellent for the airport I would think.
Qype Radar – this one is great, uses GPS and when it has entries you can find all kinds of things – shopping, food, etc.
That’s a start!! Have fun!
